Custom Sculpted Gears of War Boomer.
The Locust Boomers are large, slow walking tank like beast that can absorb a ton of punishment and carry all the firepower of the enemy units. They remind me of the Tyranid Carnifexes, and add a new depth to the Locust army.
I always enjoy seeing those Super Deformed, "Chibi" versions of characters, and thought it would be fun to sculpt a Gears of War Boomer version.
The figure was sculpted completely from scratch using Super Sculpy. This was the first time that I have used this medium and find that it works great. It has a wax like texture that easy to smooth, and can hold detail, it also does not harden until you bake it so you can sculpt and rework your area for a long time with out worrying about time constraints. It is also really cheap compared to other sculpting compounds like "Green-stuff" and Mili-put.
I started with the chest area and created a square skeleton to work the small details around. I added more and Super Sculpy as needed. The head was based around a skull template that I created months ago, and much to my pleasure it was perfectly proportionate to the body. I sculpted the face first and actually did not fully complete the head until I was completely finished with the body, arms and legs. The arms and legs were the biggest challenge due to the proportion and symetry. Sticking with the chibi/super deformed style, I gave the Boomer big hands and big feet. The positioning of the Boomshot added another layer of diffulty to the the hand sculpt and postion, I finished the right arm first and used a target length of the Boomshot to estimate the length and position of the left arm. I wanted the Boomshot to also fall in line with the sculpt style and did this by enlarging the cannon portion of the gun and shrinking the other portions of the gun.
I really enjoyed doing this sculpt and am planning on working on a Halo Spartan, chibi/super deformed style next
